Hate to be the "Master of the Obvious" here, but if the "suspects" had been...oooh lets say WHITE, do you think there would have been 300 bullets fired at one man with a gun holding an infant?

To those of you living across the pond, does your police routinely taser, shoot, kill or otherwise maim your peoples of color, indigenous or otherwise?
Seems here, since Bush and his gang of fascists took control, the good ole boys have gotten the ok to become even more brutal in their excessive use of force.

No here in the Netherlands the police doesn't "taze" and they rarely shoot at people unless there is a real provable lifethreathening situation. But even if a policeman, (rarely as that occurs) shoots anyone causing death as a result of that action it will probably end in a big investigation and a lawsuit with an outcome probably in disadvantage for this policeman. I hate that some times. The police over here can’t do shit while in your country their playing “wild west”. The police here are begging our government for more freedom to act. Talking about living across the pond huh?
Sounds to be a much more civilized environment. Are there many people of color who live in the Netherlands? Do you know if any of those people are (ex)Americans?

ReplyDeleteI bet there are but i guess they are 'highclass'. :-)Especialy in "The Hague" where the ambassedy's are. There are some International American schools around. One close where i live in "Wassenaar" in the Netherlands.
Any way .. In the Netherlands live approximately 16.5 million people which under 3.1 million immigrants of 192 nationalities. Still growing but considerably slower due to a recent change in policy to slow down that down while looking for solutions. I’m all for that to be more controlled because our country simply lacks in something needed for immigration and that is plain and simply: "space".
People in the Netherlands always using the cliche word "racism" in matters like this is just soo stupid!! But yet they do!
The Dutch word for this “slowing down proces” is: ontmoedigings – beleid = discouragement policy
For example immigrants in the past were not encouraged (at all) to learn dutch and this is now firing back on them. A very bad thing if you ask me. If I were to live in another country the first thing I would do is learn the “frikkin language”
This is a problem that Indonesians, Surinams, and Antillians from the Dutch Carribian Islands simply don’t have because the Dutch language is a more or less spoken language on their homegrounds allready (unfortunately thanks to our colonial past.)
Nevertheless they have an advantage and ofcourse a bigger change of succeeding in the Netherlands. Most Turkish people, after a period of stagnation in their intergration proces are more known for understanding the need for fast intergration in our society and they learn fast. The Turks are more succesfull.
A significant group of Morrocans however seems to want to remain being “Morrocans” in every way. Many Morrocans even born in the Netherlands often speak poor Dutch. The one Politician running high in the elections at that time who dared to point out such immigration problems in public was over-simplified and unfairly called “a racist” just like that.
He was finaly killed upclose by gunshots in the head, neck, and chest by a very disturbed white mail just days from the elections here. Last year filmmaker “Theo van Gogh” was publicly shot and “ritually slaughtered” in an Amsterdam street. His butcher “Mohammed B”was convicted just yesterday to a life sentence. ‘life sentence’ in the Netherlands however means: 20 years (only)
Theo van Gogh was a forefighter of “free speech” and many religious people, politicians, artists, Dutch tv personalities a.s.o. felt offended by his “daring to the edge” (but often honest) collums and low budget films.
A new politician in the following up line after Pim Fortuyn is Geert Wilders. Today Geert Wilders is threatened by Muslim fundamentalists in the Netherlands such as “De Hofstadgroep” and therefore heavily protected after a published “deathlist” of politicians.
Many citizens in the larger city’s in the Netherlands are disturbed by the fact that intergration of groups of immigrants has faild in some ways.

ReplyDeleteMy Brother [and hallo (sic) to "T-Dummy-NL" too (I was wrong about you, I admit it!], I don't mean to berate this subject, Hood, but I sware you would get much more traffic to your site, and therefore probably more comments too, if you ask Kurt to put your link in his blogroll. Like I said to you in IM, he adds people all the time when they request it; and, when he linked to my blog, my traffic went up exponentially! People still don't comment by and large on my blog, but I believe that's only because I'm not well-known like Kurt; whereas, you wouldn't be well know either, I think more if not most people would like you more than they do me for some reason. Gee, I wonder why....? ;)
